Adolf zur Lippe

Adolph zur Lippe
1812-1888

was born near Görlitz, then part of Prussia. In 1837, he emigrated to the USA, where he studied under Hering at the “North American Academy of the Homeopathic Healing Art“ in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He was awarded his doctorate in 1841.

In Philadelphia, he founded a practice that he ran for 46 years. In 1867, he had an argument with Hering because Lippe thought it unnecessary to establish a chair of pathology in a college of homeopathy. Hering then founded his own “Hahnemann College of Philadelphia.“ The two settled their differences in 1876.

Lippe had an outstanding knowledge of the materia medica, and held lectures on the subject at the Allentown Academy. He wrote up more than 500 of his clinical cases. He had exceptional therapeutic success and knew how to present the essential symptom. He died in Pennsylvania in 1888.
