One of the most beautiful wild herb books
This beautifully illustrated and illustrated wild herb book is not only about acquiring botanical knowledge about 24 wild herbs that are also native to this country, harvesting and processing them, recipes and formulas, but also about a fundamental attitude towards these precious gifts of nature: a life in appreciation of the seasons and the medicinal herbs they give us. I see the book as an invitation to share in the authors' in-depth knowledge and put it into practice. The recipes/recipes are relatively easy to implement without having to purchase a "laboratory". Dealing with wild herbs also has a lot to do with self-esteem, as the authors credibly convey. Great for families too. A book like this should actually be on the school curriculum... read more ...

A great introduction to the world of herb collecting
This book really is a treasure trove of knowledge and a great introduction to the world of herb collecting.

The first section provides extensive knowledge about herbs and botany in general.
Locations, soil qualities and plant characteristics are highlighted and experience reports are shared. Rounded off with some thought-provoking ideas, the aim is to explore the motivation and individual background to collecting herbs. The aim is also to develop an appreciative understanding of nature. Not only taking but also giving back.
The first part of the book also provides information on the equipment needed for harvesting and processing herbs.

I personally liked the information about the basics of botany. I knew almost nothing about it and learning about the different leaf shapes and the categorisation of plants was very educational.

The following plant portraits are also organised in the same way:

- a photo with a quote about the plant
- a list of properties such as botanical name, parts to be used, energetics, flavour and possible uses
- medicinal properties and energetics
- Identification of the plant including possible confusion or poisonous plants
- ecological relationships
- harvesting
- botanical illustration and a description of the life cycle, appearance and habitat
- Tips on growing and cultivation
- How to use the plant
- 2-5 recipes

Here is a list of the plants included in the book: Chickweed, dandelion - leaf and flower, wild mustard, nettle, plantain, violet, elderflower, lemon balm, mint, little brown lily, St John's wort, yarrow, apple, blackberry and raspberry, elder, mullein, purslane, burdock, dandelion - root, coneflower, rosehip, citrus fruit, poplar, evergreen conifers, willow

Conclusion: I am very happy to have this book in my possession. I have many of the recipes marked for copying and will refer to the book often. The categorisation by season really makes sense and is helpful.
I also like the beautiful layout of the book. Different sections are visually different so that you can quickly find what you are looking for and it breaks up the text passages well. The ribbon marker is also very helpful.

I am impressed!
I love this book! And I'm not just saying that. Although it only deals with 25 medicinal plants, organised by season, this work comprises over 400 pages. An entire chapter is dedicated to each plant and even the foreword makes it clear how much nature is appreciated here. Anyone reading this book will not only learn more about the individual plants, their purpose and use, but will also begin to open up and become more aware of themselves and the nature around them with open senses. A holistic approach that I would not have expected to find in a guide to wild herbs, but which now seems extremely coherent to me. I can therefore only advise everyone not only to read the plant chapters, but also to take the time to read the "Acquisition of basic knowledge" section. Of course, this section also deals with the actual harvest, the guidelines and also endangered or poisonous plants. Here it becomes clear that the origins of the book lie in America, yet I did not find this distracting, even if elsewhere the list of protected species will be different. With the help of botany and the explanation of the identification characteristics of plants, a basic knowledge is built up, which is deepened with the introduction to the processing of plants.
The illustrations of the individual plants covered in the book are incredibly beautiful, detailing their characteristics, naming them and making identification much easier. At the beginning of each chapter, the plant is introduced in bullet points and pictures before going into more detail about its mode of action, areas of application and identification features. Even the ecological context in the natural cycle is shown. Several different recipes and culinary recipes for the respective species are then presented and described in detail. For me, the basic idea as well as the scope of the book is unrivalled. Thanks to the selection of a few easily identifiable plants that occur in Europe, they can be dealt with in a very intensive way, which quickly provides even newcomers with extensive knowledge.
I certainly hope that more books of this kind will be published.
