The secretive “woman with a hundred husbands” from Ayurvedic teaching

Shatavari is regarded in Ayurveda as the “queen of the herbs” and the name also means “the woman with a hundred husbands". Also known as Indian asparagus, the adaptogen medicinal herb is one of the most important rasayanas in the Ayurvedic tradition.

It has been highly valued for hundreds of years in Ayurveda for its properties, being mainly used in the form of powder. It is one of the major women’s remedies although shatavari is also used for men. It is assigned to the Ayurvedic categories sweet and bitter. The spectrum of use in India is similar to that of ashwagandha.

Consummate quality and purity

Organic shatavari capsules from Unimedica consist mainly of all-natural organic shatavari root powder in plant-based capsule shells from cellulose without further fillers or additives. The wild asparagus species Asparagus racemosus (shatavari) used in our capsules grows in strictly controlled organic cultivation. The powder used comes from the dried ground roots of the plant.

Why choose organic shatavari capsules from Unimedica?

Traditional root powder needs to be stirred into food or drinks. But with Organic Shatavari Capsules from Unimedica you have a convenient and efficient way of benefiting from the properties of Indian asparagus wherever you are.

South Africa’s wild asparagus

Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) comes from Africa and is found from South Asia to northern Australia. The small thorny bush has soft needle-shaped leaves and its white flowers form red berries with seeds. The plant is rather like a mini pine tree and has an impressive root stock. The root is up to a metre long and 2 cm in diameter, and is used for various healing applications in Ayurveda.

Each brown bottle of Organic Shatavari from Unimedica contains 180 capsules. This is enough for 2 months.

    The root for the menopause
It helps greatly to combat feelings of stress and the hormonal imbalance in the menopause. Shatavari manages to bring order to chaotic hormones, helping you regain a positive attitude to life because of the balancing effect on the hormones. I’ve had experience of using adaptogens and shatavari is certainly one of my favourites, also together with ashwagandha, as they supplement and reinforce each other.
I’ve found that shatavari helps the pressure headaches, making me feel relaxed and calm inside – it just generally softens the negative effects of the hormonal changes.
I’ve found a way of enrichening my yoga to help me nevertheless feel well through the vata phase – which in ayurvedic teaching means the menopausal phase with dry skin and mucous membranes, backache and headaches, insomnia and heat with strong sweating.
It’s exactly these symptoms that shatavari helps me get a grip on. I can feel the gentle action of the hormone-like substance, phytohormones, without annoying side effects. In fact the opposite is true – my skin still looks really good and I can tolerate it really well!
