Aha, so whoever gets it is to blame.
The book is based on a study of nuns who probably suffered relatively little from dementia in old age. It is beautifully written.
The author writes "... We had worked out that dementia develops when the degradation processes taking place in the brain cannot be compensated for, or can no longer be compensated for efficiently enough, by corresponding regenerative, neuroplastic remodelling and reconstruction processes. We had described unfavourable conditions in our current way of life and living together as the cause for the loss of this normally existing regenerative capacity of the brain."
For him, the solution is a well-developed sense of coherence. Man should resolve his own conflicts, so to speak, and come to terms with himself and the world.
It is good to know that the brain can regenerate to a certain extent. The author has worked this out. He omitted to mention other studies that dementia can be triggered by toxins stored in the brain. I would like to refer you to Dr Max Daunderer. I would have liked to know why these degradation processes take place at all, but there was nothing really to be found in the book.
The author worked it out from the subject matter.
If you don't read the book critically, you might come to the conclusion that you yourself are to blame for such illnesses because you haven't practised sufficient mental hygiene, as I like to call it. The question of which substances influence the brain and therefore the psyche is left out of the equation.
I don't find that encouraging, although the cover of the book promises it.

Plaque formation also takes place in the nuns, as the examination of the brains post mortem showed. As H. says, their brains also shrivel up in places. But new neurones are formed in them...due to their way of life. Of course, it's your own fault if you know this and don't act accordingly. read more ...
