Das Zugtier des Buches ist natürlich Shalane Flanagan, Weltklasse-Marathonläuferin (persönliche Bestzeit 2014 beim Berlin Marathon von 2:21.14), viermalige Olympiateilnehmerin und US-Rekordhalterin im Langstreckenlauf. Sie läuft seit ihrer Kindheit und lebt in Portland, USA. Als Läuferin, die gegen Läufer von Weltklasse antritt, bringt sie in das Buch hinein, welche Ernährung konkret wichtig für das Laufen ist. Ihre Fähigkeit so zäh bei Wettkämpfen zu laufen, schreibt sie besonders ihrer Nahrungsaufnahme zu: sie nimmt Nahrung mit hoher Nährstoffdichte zu allen Mahlzeiten auf. Hände weg von leeren Kalorien, wie Frühstücksbrötchen aus Weißmehl, das wirkt sich bei Sportlern schlecht aus und wird schnell bei der Leistung sichtbar. Stattdessen: nahrhaftes den ganzen Tag über. Herzhafte Minestrone mit Würstchen und Bohnen, Marokkanischer Linsensalat, Brathähnchen mit Kräutern, Süßkartoffelfrühstückskekse oder natürlich am Morgen ein Haferflockenmüsli für Wettkampftage. Ein schönes Buch für sportliche Menschen, nicht nur für Läufer. Auch zu empfehlen für Menschen, die ihren Lebensstil ändern wollen, z.
