Mildew and mites: the fight of the cucumber

back to list

by K.L. and E.S.

Cucumber plant grown in a greenhouse, affected by mildew and treated with Sulphur 200C and then Thuja 200C.

After the plant became weak, stopped growing, and developed very discoloured yellow-green leaves, I started homeopathic treatment as below. My experience up to this point with cucumber plants was as follows: the affected leaves quickly became completely yellow with perforations, then brown and limp, and then the entire plant collapsed.

Initially, I applied Sulphur 200C twice with an interval of four days. I used four granules dissolved in 5 litres of water and watered the plants and the roots with this solution.

Seven days later, the plant was already looking very good. I then administered Thuja 200C, applied in the same way as above.

The plant continued to recover well and was now producing flowers again and lovely fruit! In terms of growth, it has more or less caught up with the other plants. Even the affected leaves all gradually recovered their green colour and remained healthy.

Now, there is hardly any difference in the greenhouse and the yield is the same as the other plants!

For me personally, it was a great pleasure to see such a successful treatment, thanks to your plant homeopathy!

Ms S. had six cucumbers in her greenhouse this year. She planted them at the end of April after starting them in pots beforehand. By May, she already had her first cucumbers. As every year, they developed well until June, when they were affected by spider mites.

On the underside of the leaves, fine webs with the tiny spider mites could be seen.

The affected leaves had yellow spots, caused by the sucking action of the pests, which later became larger, until finally the entire leaf dried out and turned brown.

In previous years, Ms S. had used beneficial organisms (green lacewings). This somewhat reduced the infestation but without completely eliminating it.

This year, Ms S. treated the cucumbers with a mixture of Petroleum 30C and Psorinum 200C, which she applied to the plants every four to five days, watering and spraying a total of three applications.

The spider mite infestation improved a little but then returned strongly again. At this stage, the cucumber plants looked distinctly unwell.

At the beginning of August, she tried Amblyseius 6D, which is a homeopathic preparation from Gamasina mites.

She removed the old affected leaves and watered the cucumbers twice per week with 10 ml of remedy solution in 10 litres of water.

To her astonishment, the cucumbers developed new shoots, with healthy leaves and fruit, right through to the end of September – completely free of spider mites.
